New York, NY – It is an ancient question.  One that has plagued philosophers, politicians,
and religious leaders across the globe.  One that finally has an answer – that is, 52 answers.
Art or Something Like It! is not content to simply serve up an entertaining exploration of the New York City art scene.  In its series of half-hour programs featuring artists of all genres, backgrounds and media – music, performance, writing, painting, photography, sculpture, film & video, and more – we will hear the answer to our question from the 52 artists profiled,
as well as hundreds of New Yorkers.

CUNY TV producer and series creator Brian A. Bernhard promises that this season will be “different from anything you’ve ever seen.”  Artistic luminaries such as animator Bill Plympton, sideshow performer Todd Robbins, and rockstar legend Gerald Casale of DEVO (currently performing as Jihad Jerry) share their lives and work, and provide us with their answers to the ultimate question, “What is art?”

In its premier season produced by CUNY TV, Art or Something Like It! exploded onto the scene, drawing in viewers from all over New York City to the television broadcasts, and viewers from all over the world to its online webcasts. “I wanted to create a television series that would benefit the artists, as well as the viewers,” said Bernhard.

CEO of Troma Entertainment, Lloyd Kaufman said, “You know when we’re not making those great movies like The Toxic Avenger, Class of Nuke’em High, Poultrygeist, Terror Firmer, and Tromeo & Juliet, we like to kick back and watch the best TV there is, because the best TV I know is ART or Something Like It!

The first episode of the new season, premiering Friday, Sept. 8, 2006 at 10:30 p.m. on CUNY TV (Ch. 75 on Time Warner Cable & Cablevision in New York City; also on RCN), showcases Squeeze Rocker Julz A, storyteller Clay McLeod Chapman, painter Maria Roberts, and animator Bill Plympton.

CUNY TV, Channel 75, is part of the City University of New York

Its mission is to extend the academic and intellectual richness of the University beyond the campuses
